Stanley Cup and NBA Champions!

Two exciting games this weekend ended in Championships for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals was played in Detroit on Friday, June 12th as the home team Red Wings faced the Pittsburgh Penguins in a final game to decide this year's NHL champion. The Penguins won the close game 2-1, with an especially exciting and hard fought third period ending the series. This is Pittsburgh's first cup win since 1992 and is the second championship for professional sports teams in Pittsburgh this year, joining the Steeler's Superbowl win in January.

The NBA Playoffs Ended Sunday, June 14th as the Los Angeles Lakers won game five of the series against the Magic in Orlando. Kobe Bryant led his team to a much anticipated NBA championship win. His statistics in scoring and passing during the series were very impressive, and his game against the Magic was nearly flawless. He certainly showed why he is one of the premiere athletes in the NBA. This is also an historic tenth Championship win for coach Phil Jackson, who has a number of memorable wins with the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan, as well as his wins with Brant in Los Angeles. This gives Jackson the most championship wins of any NBA coach.
